What is the Specialty Family Practice?

Family Medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and family.

It is a specialty that encompasses all ages, both male and female sexes, all body systems, and disease entities.  Family Physicians provide primary care to their patients that include health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, and diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness.

Primary care promotes effective communication with patients and encourages the role of the patient as a partner in health care.

 

What are Allied Health Professionals?

Health care providers such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants work in collaboration as well as under the supervision of a family physician.  At WFMA, our entire staff is dedicated to meeting our patients’ medical and health care needs.  We are committed to be advocates for our patients in coordinating the use of the entire health care system to benefit each patient.

 

Physician Phone Coverage

Our physicians routinely make return calls between 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.  For emergencies, a physician from our practice is on call at all times during the day, nights and weekends.  WFMA has a policy to bill for medical treatment services when handled by the telephone.  We may also direct patients for further care to the Waynesboro Hospital utilizing the Hospitalist Service.  The Hospitalist Service will provide appropriate hospital care and discharge patients back to their personal family physician in a timely manner.

 

Special Services

WFMA provides State Certified Laboratory services.  We believe in comprehensive annual physical exams, perform routine Pap smears and breast exams, as well as prostate evaluations.  We provide simple office surgical procedures and specialize in infant, child, adolescent, and adult care.

 

Prescriptions

It is our policy to avoid prescribing medication over the phone.

Prescriptions should be obtained at routine follow up visits, and we request that you coordinate appointments so that the next appointment takes place before your supply of medications is exhausted.  WFMA continues to provide “at no charge,” prescriptions for long term, chronic medical problems for a 30 day or a 90 day supply renewable up to 1 year.  For patients with Medical Assistance or PACE financial support, a 30 day supply up to 6 months’ limit is required by the State.  We request patients call for prescriptions during office hours only.  Prescription refills will be available to pick up at the patient’s pharmacy the following work day.  There will be no charge for prescription refills for next day pick up.

Patients calling for same-day medication refills will be charged a $15.00 administration fee for same-day service.

There will be a $10.00 administration fee to cover the cost of replacing each lost prescription.

 

Help Us Provide Better Service

  • Always bring your current insurance card and prescription card to your appointment.
  • Co-payments or deductibles are due at the time of service.
  • Notify our office if you have any change of address, telephone number or insurance coverage so we may update our records.
  • Be on time for appointments.
  • Inform the receptionist the reasons for your appointments so that we can allow enough time.
  • Bring your “bag of pills” with you for routine follow up evaluations or annual exams.
  • Let us know how we are doing.  We appreciate both compliments and concerns.
